Elementary Supervisor Katherine Thorn Selected as next Shongum and Fernbrook Elementary Vice Principal

At last night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Supervisor Katherine Thorn as Shongum and Fernbrook Elementary’s next Vice Principal. Ms. Thorn will begin her new role as Vice Principal effective July 1, 2021.

Ms. Thorn received her Bachelor of Arts from Ramapo College of New Jersey as well as her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership. Ms. Thorn began her teaching career in Randolph at Fernbrook Elementary School and has been the district’s Supervisor of Elementary Education since 2016. In her role, Ms. Thorn has directly supported professional learning opportunities for 100+ staff while also leading staff in the development of K-5 curriculum in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science. She has played a key role in the decision analysis for the identification of district instructional resources which has included the implementation of district technology resources in all elementary classrooms. Ms. Thorn is an advocate of student-centered instruction and has instilled this philosophy across all four of our elementary schools through initiatives like further development of student-driven literacy instruction and individualized goal-based growth. She has had a significant impact on our school community, and she will be a tremendous addition to the leadership teams at Shongum and Fernbrook.

“I am honored and excited to serve in the role of Vice Principal for Fernbrook and Shongum Elementary Schools,” Ms. Thorn said. “In my role as Elementary Supervisor and Interim Vice Principal, I have had the opportunity to work alongside the exceptional staff of both schools and I look forward to continuing this collaboration in a new capacity. As Vice Principal, I hope to further support our staff in cultivating enthusiastic learning communities through innovative instructional strategies. I look forward to getting to know each student and family, so together we can partner to support our students in following their passions and interests. It is a privilege to be a part of the Randolph School District and to further contribute to an already incredible learning community.”

As a district, we are proud of all that Ms. Thorn has accomplished to support students and their success. We look forward to her continued leadership at Shongum and Fernbrook Elementary when she begins her new role as Vice Principal this July. Congratulations Ms. Thorn.
