Vice Principal Michael Scott Selected as next Shongum Elementary Principal

At tonight’s Board of Education meeting, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Vice Principal Michael Scott as Shongum Elementary’s next Principal. Mr. Scott will become the new Principal at Shongum Elementary effective July 1, 2021.

Mr. Scott received his Bachelor of Arts from Boston College, his Master of Arts in Teaching from The College of New Jersey, and his Master of Arts in Urban Education from New Jersey City University. Through his multiple degree programs, Mr. Scott has specialized in Elementary Education, Educational Administration, and Supervision. Prior to taking on an administrative role, he accumulated eight years of classroom experience at the elementary level teaching Kindergarten, Second, and Fourth grade.

Mr. Scott has served as Vice Principal at Shongum and Fernbrook Elementary since 2017. As part of his role on two building leadership teams, he works daily to ensure the smooth operation of both elementary schools. Prior to his service in Randolph, he was a Vice Principal at T.G. Connors School in Hoboken, NJ and has an impressive track record of administrative leadership at the building level. This past school year, Mr. Scott also served as Acting Principal at Fernbrook Elementary and did so effortlessly despite the challenges of the pandemic.

“I am grateful for and humbled by the opportunity to continue to serve Shongum Elementary students and families,” Mr. Scott said. “Through my role as Vice Principal in two buildings, each day has taught me new lessons on leadership which will help me as I transition to this new role. My philosophy for education is student-centered. Whether it be checking into classrooms, spending time at lunch/recess, or my favorite time of the day watching eager student faces during morning drop-off, I try to spend as much time as possible with students. By hearing, respecting, and valuing each child’s voice, I am able to support students and staff to ensure our school climate continues to meet and exceed their needs. I am excited to begin this new journey with our students, staff, and families. Shongum is a wonderful school community, and I am honored to be a part of it.”

As a district, we are incredibly proud of all that Mr. Scott has accomplished to support students and their success. We look forward to his continued transformational leadership at Shongum Elementary when he begins his new role as Principal this July. Congratulations Mr. Scott.
