Board of Education Welcomes Cara Zhao
Randolph Township Schools is pleased to formally welcome Cara Zhao to the Board of Education. She was sworn in Monday, August 17, 2020 virtually via Microsoft Teams. Ms. Zhao has lived in Randolph nearly her entire life. Her journey with the district started as a student at Shongum Elementary School during which time she first developed her leadership skills as President of her 3rd grade class. During her time at RHS, she was a volunteer for Compassionate Care Hospice visiting with patients in the surrounding area. She also devoted much of her personal time to weekly after-school violin lessons for students at Shongum. In 2014, she graduated from Randolph High School as class valedictorian.
Ms. Zhao received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Operations Research & Management Science from Cornell University in 2018. At Cornell, she was a leader in her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, where she served as Vice President of Intellectual Development. Through this position, she oversaw member grade point averages and met individually with struggling students to form academic plans.
In addition to her work, she is heavily involved in Women in Tech initiatives. As BlackRock’s Recruitment Chair for Women in Tech, she has planned female mentorship programs, organized diversity recruitment events, and mentored students who were part of the Girls Who Code program. She was also instrumental In BlackRock’s involvement in the Grace Hopper Celebration which is the world’s largest gathering of women technologists.
