Michelle Scheid Wins Center Grove Elementary Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Center Grove Elementary Teacher of the Year Michelle Scheid. Ms. Scheid has taught at Randolph since 2012 starting off her career as a 4th grade teacher before transitioning to 3rd grade which she has taught since 2015. She attended Quinnipiac University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Her thesis was on the effects of home reading on achievement in elementary students. Ms. Scheid is a member of the National Education Association, the New Jersey Education Association, and the Randolph Education Association. Ms. Scheid has served on Center Grove’s Steering Committee and the Culture and Climate Committee. She has also been a key contributor on Learner Active Technology Infused Classroom (LATIC) initiatives. Using her knowledge based in LATIC and student-centered training, she has played a pivotal role in elementary curriculum writing. Ms. Sheid has also participated in 9 professional development opportunities over the past few years. Topics have included student-centered learning, assistive technology, writing & reading conferencing, and special education.

Ms. Scheid was nominated for her outstanding work in the classroom. “Michelle is an extremely hard-working teacher and member of the Center Grove community. She always puts the needs of her students first. Michelle has embraced a student-centered approach to learning in her classroom. Committed to her own personal growth, she spends many voluntary hours each summer continuing her work as a teacher in a learner active technology infused classroom. She supports her students both academically and emotionally and takes great effort to differentiate her teaching methods to meet their ever-changing needs. She takes challenges in stride and successfully leads her students to academic success…She is truly deserving of this honor.”

She is passionate about the work that she does in her classroom and believes in the power she holds to change her students lives. “An outstanding teacher is someone who meets the needs of all students socially, emotionally, and academically. I believe that a positive student-teacher relationship is the key to making the most progress in all these areas during the course of a year. I work hard to get to know my students as individuals early in the year and foster an open line of communication. This allows me to tailor activities to their interests, understand what causes them frustration, and make connections with them so they will always know I am on their side.” Ms. Schied is proud of the work she does as an educator and thankful for the impact her students have had on her life. “I am certain becoming an elementary teacher was one of the best decisions I ever made. Even though I am the one with the profession of teacher, my kids have taught me so much. I hope to continue giving back to them and having an impact on children who come through my classroom for many years.”

Randolph Township Schools is proud to have Ms. Scheid supporting the success of students. Thank you for all that you do in your classroom and for your building. Congratulations on becoming the next Center Grove Teacher of the Year!
