Share the Keys

Parents/Guardians, 

In April 2007, the Randolph Township Board of Education amended the pupil parking policy to require both a parent/guardian and the provisional student driver to attend the National Safety Council’s Teen Driver Safety Program – Share the Keys before a senior may submit an application for a senior parking permit. The program emphasizes the importance of parent-teen communication and contracting incremental driving privileges through the Graduated Driver’s License system.

This program complements the Driver Education curriculum taught in our Health and Physical Education Department during the sophomore year. Goals include:

  1. Inform family members about the risks of teen driving based on solid, scientific evidence. 
  2. Provide practical advice about strategies that the National Safety Council believes may reduce the risks of teen driving. 
  3. Encourage parent-teen cooperation and involvement throughout the entire process from learning to drive through independent driving. 

Program Schedule for 2025-2026
The upcoming virtual sessions of Share the Keys will be held on the following dates. Each virtual session will begin at 6:30 PM.

  • Monday, March 23, 2026

New Registration Procedure: To receive credit for attending the program, pre-registration is required. The registration link will be available on the Randolph High School website prior the event and will also be sent out via a Ram Alert. Participants must register using their RTNJ email accounts to ensure accurate attendance tracking. Any changes or cancellations will be posted on the website. 

Following input from parents who expressed that they wished they had received this information earlier in the driving process, we have partnered with the Police Department and the Traffic Safety Committee to ensure that both parents and their teens attend this one and a half-hour session together. This will provide a comprehensive understanding of the program and driving safety.
