    INTRODUCTION TO MASS MEDIA        Semester                                                              Grades 9, 10

    This introductory course explores pre-production, production, and post-production in the wide and varied fields of mass media. The three major media studied are creative writing, video, and television. Students develop writing, verbal, and directing skills through the use of computers, video editing, group work, and live and location camera shooting as they produce works in each of the major areas of study. This course is designed for students who seek a career in the field of mass media and who will pursue advanced media courses.

     

                                                                                           

    MASS MEDIA I                                           Full Year                                                        Grades 10, 11

    Building on skills developed in Introduction to Mass Media, students in this course expand their script writing abilities and master Adobe Photoshop 7.0. They are introduced to Adobe Premiere Pro 2 and begin understanding and using non-linear editing. The course structure includes group and class projects featuring computers, television, and movie making. Weekly labs include logs of editing stations and development of a service or product based on BASF and Morris County Chamber of Commerce standards. Hands-on labs include wiring microphones, soldering damaged wires, cleaning VCR’s, and maintaining lights and cameras.

     

    Prerequisite:  Introduction to Mass Media, Teacher Recommendation

     

     

    MASS MEDIA II                                       Full Year                                                              Grades 11, 12

    This course focuses on script writing, filmmaking, television production, and computer graphics. Students apply advanced video techniques in the areas of pre-production, production, and post-production as they plan, produce, and edit their own videos/movies and television shows. Adobe Photoshop 7.0 and Adobe Premiere are reviewed, and students develop advanced techniques. Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, and Macromedia Flash are introduced.

     

    Prerequisite:  Mass Media I, Teacher Recommendation

     

     

    MASS MEDIA III                                      Full Year                                                                Grade 12

    Level Honors

    This senior portfolio course focuses on script writing, filmmaking, television production, and animated graphics. Students develop their own style, work in medium(s) that reflect their strengths, and, with the guidance of the instructor, develop projects incorporating advanced production and post-production techniques. All students use non-linear editing systems and develop advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop 7.0, Adobe Premiere Pro 2, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, and Flash animation.

     

    Prerequisite:  Mass Media II, teacher recommendation, grade B or better

     

     

    TELEVISION PRODUCTION I         146                                 Second Semester                                       Grade 9

    Television Production I is centered around learning how to write and produce a television show.  The course begins with learning the technology in the Control Room.  Students will learn how to write, shoot, and edit a 30-minute television show.  They will experience all of the different production occupations, and perform the duties that each occupation entails. 

    Prerequisite: Intro to Mass Media

     

     

    TELEVISION PRODUCTION II               Full Year                                                               Grade 10

    Television Production II will include producing news segments for possible airing, the study of concepts such as brainstorming an idea, writing a script, shooting the segment and post production editing.  The main focus will be on the writing and oral reporting of pertinent and current issues facing the students in their school, community and the world.  In this course students will have to complete at least two specific job assignments: editor, writer, director, camera person or talent.

     

     

    TELEVISION PRODUCTION III              Full Year                                                                Grade 11

    Television Production III will include producing news segments for possible airing, the study of concepts such as brainstorming an idea, writing a script, shooting the segment and postproduction editing.  The main focus would be on the writing and oral reporting of pertinent and current issues facing the students in their school, community and the world.  In this course students would have to complete at least three specific job assignments: editor, writer, director, camera person or talent.

     

     

    TELEVISION PRODUCTION IV HONORS           FullYear                                                     Grade 12

    Television Production IV Honors will include producing news segments for possible airing, the study of concepts such as brainstorming an idea, writing a script, shooting the segment and postproduction editing.  The main focus will be on the writing and oral reporting of pertinent and current issues facing the students in their school, community and the world.  In this course students would have to complete all of the job assignments:  editor, writer, director, cameraperson, and talent.

     

    Prerequisite:  Completion of one other Television Production course or completion of Mass Media I
