Music is intertwined as a necessary part of our society. Touching the mind, body and spirit, music is a compelling, meaningful and powerful force in our lives. The study of music is vital to the appreciation and understanding of our culture and the cultures of the world. Through singing, playing, listening, performing and composing using the Orff approach and Kodaly methodology, elementary general music staff create opportunities for our students to have a deeper understanding of music.
Students learn by experience in elementary music. The primary goals of the program are for students to develop basic music literacy and to ensure that our students have a working knowledge of music history and literature. The process and product of learning, making, and performing music is equally valued.
As beginning musicians, students learn general skills and concepts. As they develop, students have access to a wide variety of performance, composition and theory courses in order to explore their own creative musical impulses.
