• High School Programs

    The Community School is pleased to announce opportunities for students to accelerate their learning in the summer of 2020. The Randolph Summer Academy is designed for students interested in taking a class this summer for enrichment or for credit. Credit courses are for students who would like to fulfill a graduation requirement and be able to take higher-level or full-year elective courses during the regular school year. Enrichment Courses are meant to be a fun way to hone your skills or learn something new. All classes will be offered virtually through Microsoft Teams.

    Summer BBQ with Chef Tom Povinelli
    (Incoming Grades 7-12)
    August 3 - August 14 at 1:00pm
    Class sessions on August 3, 5, 6, 10, 12, and 13
    Each class will include a 45-60 minute demo, and then a 30 minute Q & A. Students may grill live with the instructor at their own homes, or watch as Chef Povinelli prepares 6 summer BBQ entrees! The full menu and ingredient list (if grilling at home) is included below.

    Enrichment Course Descriptions

    Enrichment Courses each run for a 2 week session and do not meet on Fridays unless otherwise noted. The classes are taught virtually by Randolph teachers.

    Navigating the 2020 Presidential Election

    Students will investigate and analyze current media and text to better understand the election process in this pivotal election year.

    SAT Review

    Students will review the composition of the test and be guided through a series of exercises. Students will be introduced to Khan Academy and the individualized support provided on this site. Additionally, students will conduct college research to determine SAT requirements at various institutions.

    Summer BBQ with Chef Tom Povinelli

    Come join us for an exciting two weeks of summer grilling with Chef Povinelli! Chef will present 6 six BBQ meals over the course of two weeks. During each session you can either follow along with Chef and cook on your outdoor grill or just watch along as Chef cooks up some delicious BBQ meals. After each demo Chef will stay on for a Q&A session where you can ask him any questions from the demo or any Culinary based questions you may have. You will walk away from this course with great meals that you can prepare for you and your family on an outdoor grill!

    Week 1 (45-60 min demo: 30 min Q&A)

    Monday - Various Grilling Vegetables (August 3)

    1 sweet potato
    1 onion
    1 large carrot
    1 zucchini
    1 yellow squash
    1 clove of garlic
    1/2 cup oil
    salt & pepper
    onion power
    paprika

    Wednesday - Grilled Pizza (August 5)

    1 pizza dough for 10 inch pizza
    1 pizza sauce
    1 bag mozzarella cheese
    1 tube sweet Italian sausage crumbles
    1 onion

    Thursday - Grilled Smore Hand Pies (August 6)

    1 tube of premade pie dough or biscuit
    1 chocolate bar
    1 bag of gram crackers
    1 container of marshmallow fluff or 40 mini marshmallows
    1 whole egg

    Week 2: (45-60 min demo: 30 min Q&A)

    Monday - Grilled Watermelon Pizza (August 10)

    1 large seedless watermelon 
    ¼ cup balsamic glaze  
    ¼ cup Extra virgin olive oil 
    1 large container baby arugula  
    1 large container of Goat Cheese 
    Fresh black pepper 

    Wednesday - Grilled Chicken Quesadilla (August 12)

    1 White Onion cut round 
    2 medium bell peppers 
    Kosher salt (pinch) 
    Ground pepper (pinch) 
    2 8-oz Chicken Breasts 
    ½ tsp. chili powder 
    ½ tsp. ground cumin 
    ½ tsp. dried oregano 
    8 flour tortilla  

     Thursday - Grilled Banana Split Nachos (August 13)

    1 container of strawberry
    1 jar of seedless strawberry jelly
    1 bag flat bread, brown sugar
    Cinnamon
    1 fresh pineapple
    2 banana, bag of mini chocolate chips
    1 bottle of chocolate syrup
    Vanilla Ice cream (optional)
