Summer Gardening Camp at Center Grove Elementary School
The Randolph Community School is excited to offer its Summer Gardening Camp again in August 2019! The camp will run for three weeks: August 5-9, 12-16 and 19-23 in the Center Grove garden and cafeteria.
Children entering grades 2-5 in the fall can spend a half or full day learning about gardening, starting seeds, harvesting, greenhouse education, canning, weeding, watering, plant studies, composting, soil analysis and even a STEM challenge. New this summer, the camp will include more STEM opportunities including learning with the hydroponic and aquaponic systems from the district BOSCH/REF grant.
The program will be offered in one-week half-day morning or in one-week full-day sessions. Children will also enjoy one fun-filled gardening trip per week.
Week 1: Urban Farm, Morristown
Week 2: Fosterfields Living Historical Farm, Morris Township
Week 3: Schiff Nature Preserve, Mendham
The cost is $125 for a one-week half-day session or $250 for a one-week full-day session which includes a half hour break for lunch. Students should bring a bagged lunch and drink with them. Water bottles are also recommended since the children will be gardening outside.
Morning sessions run 9 a.m. to noon while the full-day session runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students may go on trips to local nature preserves, gardens or aboretums.
